Day 8: Wedding Samples

Hi all,

I started out the day thinking about accomplishing the "Its a Sketchy Challenge" over at the Canadian Scrapbooker website at http://www.canadianscrapbooker.ca/sketchy/ And although it jump started my evening, it doesn't really look like the sketch.  I might still enter it but I have a stamp somewhere that I might try to put on it and I have no idea where it is now...

Anyways, I am IN LOVE with this Little Yellow Bicycle paper and of course these pics... I just picked up the paper today and I couldn't have picked it out any better to match Ryan and Jane's eyes. Its a simple layout, which is strange for me but I really didn't want anything too busy as I wanted the focus on the photos. Here's my layout!!

Materials Used: Little Yellow Bicycle Winter Twig/Snowy Aspen paper, Jillibean brown paper, BG LIfe of the party alphabet stickers, Lilybee ABC stickers, SU Island Indigo ink and baker's twine, SU pearls, SU buttons and SU rub on (chat room)

Since I was so happy with the matching of the above, I decided to tackle an even bigger project. I've had this on my list for too long so I put together a second round of samples for my friend Jennifer who is getting married in the Fall. Table "numbers" is where I decided to start! She is a speech therapist although ther emay be a more technical term so she is going to have 26 tables for each of the alphabet (maybe more if the guest list keeps growing.. lol) I started out with a couple samples that looked like this but I am not overally excited how they turned out.. I think its because I don't love the 'perfect bow'. I also don't like the mini doily - you see, we are looking for a elegant yet vintage feel. Her colors are off white with a very subtle pink. Note that these are all in the whisper white but should match the decor.  The off white paper everywhere in this world seems to be too "yellow-y".
Materials Used: All Stampin Up product re: Labels Framelits collection, Largie Delicate Doily Sizzlit, Apothecary stamp set, Whisper White organza ribbon, Pink Pirouette taffetta ribbon, Victoria trim ribbon, Whisper White card stock, & Basic Gray ink

I did like parts of the above so I carried on and looked at our first sample (included on the left below) and compared it with a new look that is more clean and elegant. This basically used the organza ribbon in a more elegant way and I included some SU pearls as well (I forgot them above). And a final sample just adding a strip of the SU pink pirouette taffetta ribbon:

So, this led me to consider her placecards to match. She initially wanted to go with "place cards" that were butterflies on the wine glasses (3 colors for different meal choices) but it sounds like the hotel was not fond of this so we had to axe that idea. Here's what I mean if you are interested (these are not new):

Materials Used: All Stampin Up re: Bigz Beautiful Butterflies Die, Precious Butterflies stamp set with versa mark, and pearls. Clear Staples sticker labels used for names.

I still love those butterflies so I decided to whip something up (and I do mean WHIP because I reused the butterflies from before with the paper slits in them). So remember these are PROTOTYPES. I stuck the butterfly on the whisper white placecard embossed with the SU exclusive Elegant lines embossing folder.  I did this just to show her! I used the Crumb Cake brown color previously but switched to the gray to remain elegant but also match the color scheme of her invites.  This would look nice using the crumb cake paper as well - so this is just to compare.
Materials used: See above and below descriptions

And finally, I put together three different placecards representing each of the different meals. These have a few unique pieces but should work out well. The grey patterned paper is discontinued but the current SU Twitterpated paper works perfect!!
Materials used: All Stampin Up re: Whisper White paper, Elegant Lines embossing folder, Pink Pirouette Designer Series paper, Basic Grey retired paper pack, pearls, Four Frames stamp set, organza whisper white ribbon and basic grey ink

Alright - so we have lots to go, the biggest piece being the program although we've already picked out a style.  Once we narrow down the color schemes there some signage that she'd like to have, a few favor cards and the programs. Stay tuned!

Cheers!

Day 7: Ultrasound pics = CHECK!

Hey, Hey!

This challenge is working out for me because its forcing me to really do some of the things that I have been putting off!!!  Here's another small item off the list for me in regards to an ultrasound layout!

Firstly, here's the better picture of yesterdays pic. I added some flowers as well... I found them while searching for something on today's challenge... I don't know where they came from though - I think Michaels! Anyways, they have that 'push pin' look I was trying to get.

OK so today I had already decided that I would use the scrapbooksteals mid week mojo layout but I didn't to find a picture picture... I finally landed on my ultrasound pics for Baby #2.  I pictured this to be more of an "elegant" layout so I thought that the sketch worked out to accomplish that... Only I couldn't get the paper I picked out (Little Yellow Bicycle Swoon... omg, I have to sue this soon!) to work out... I landed on some paper I picked out for another challenge... Yeah, I am impressing myself too, I am getting more efficient as I go through my paper dozens of times. Anyway, it ended up to be more of a cute layout, which suits me just fine! I wasn't sure on putting flowers on a layout for a boy but as a baby I am sure he won't mind.... I used some twine to really scale it back.

So here's a link to the challenge - I invite you to play along!! Remember that it never needs to be exact, of course - play with it! That's the fun!! http://scrapbooksteals.stealnetwork.com/wp/2012/08/08/bo-bunny-mama-razzi-mid-week-mojo/

Pardon the interruption... but my hubby just brought me coffee in my office! Don't you love that? Its likely a sign he's a keeper! :) Well done ME!

Here's my take on the challenge:
Materials Used: FancyPants "Its Your Day" Hodgepodge paper, FancyPants "Childish things" Buddy paper, Lilybee Buttercup Rain, SU pool party ink to edge everything, SU twine, SU Pool party baker's twine, BG flags, Bo Bunny trim, Imaginisce cupcake flower, SU faceted vintage button

Well, as always the journalling is the important thing!

Cheers!

Day Six of Scrap: Jane turns 2

Hey again!!

Feeling like Cheryl today and getting this done after bed time! I can see this happening tomorrow night too but I already have a plan to do the scrapbooksteals mid week mojo so perhaps it will get done sooner than later.

You can always tell when I came up with my own inspriration for a layout.  My brain goes a mile a minute and the layout becomes a giant piece of chaos guided by no sketch or plan.  I can say that when I started scrapbooking it was all about the journalling for me - Jane would always know my memories of when she entered this world.  So, I scrapbooked milestone after milestone.  At first it was mthly (Ex. you rolled over, first tooth, etc) and now its every 6 mths. So, its no different that at 2 years old, I would want to capture milestones - just this time it was more about capturing her personality.  To be honest, I did this layout 1 month after her birthday (25 months) and already a lot has changed!!!

So here's what my layout came out like! Its not the best picture so maybe I'll do another one tomorrow in the natural light.
Materials used... Studio sticky back natural canvas, Lilybee Buttercup Rain paper, Fancypants School year paper, Graphic 45 An ABC Primer Collection Garmmar School (background paper), Ac thickers and Stampin Up chipboard (Loads of Letters) used as a mask with SU whisper white craft paint, SU brads, and SU buttons, as well as an old mat from an Ikea photo frame ( RANDOM!)

My brain was hoping the frayed canvas would look like a bulletin board and the SU brads would look like pins.  I accidentally came upon the 'inked' 2s. I was planning to just ink the chipboard so I did this on a separate piece of paper.  Then I loved the negative that came out so did it on the paper. You just never know what you are gonna get!

As a side note, yes, I need to redo this pic tomorrow. LOL.

Cheers!

Day 5: Halifax!!

Day 5!! And still productive... sort of!

This one came together quicker than I thought it would today!! I remembered the little rolled paper technique from the Bean Talk a few weeks ago and when I looked at pictures from the Zoo it worked perfectly to test it out.

How fun it turned out to be!! Just about as fun as our trip to Halifax!!

I have to say that the Jillibean corrugated paper is by far some of my most favorite looking letters... LOVE! With my greatest love of twine, the combo just was awesome to me!! You likely can't tell but the background paper and the dark brown is has a 'wood grain' type flavor so its awesome!! I am not sure what brand it is though.. oops! The background is SU newsprint!

I also started a card and virtually destroyed my scraproom... I think because it hits too close to home, I couldn't get anything to look the way I wanted it to.  Here's attempt #1 - I am sure you'll see some more attempts soon.

Materials (All Stampin Up): Elegant Lines embossing folder, basic pearls, Teeny Wishes stamp set, Precious butterflies stamp set, Biz Beautiful Butterflies, Garden Green ink & designer paper, and versamark, and crumb card stock.

As a total side note just noticed that one of my favorite online discount stores Scrapbooksteals.com has Mr. Hueys today - Ummm... GET THEM.  See an old layout below where I used it... LOVE THEM.  Can't get enough!! They also have a bloghop on the go if you are interested. http://scrapbooksteals.stealnetwork.com/wp/2012/08/10/studio-calico-mr-hueys-mists-august-blog-hop/

Alright - well, I have some wedding stuff that I need to take care of soon. See you tomorrow!!

Day 4: 30 Days of Scrap

Day Four!! Wow, still on track!

In honor of my ailing grandfather, I dug into the Christmas photos and found this picture that I absolutely adore. I must say I stared at this page forever and am still not happy with it but I think its one of those pictures that you just feel like nothing does it justice.

The heat is still pretty high here in NL and I am seriously considering moving my scrapbook room downstairs... Think Ryan will agree? ha!

The only inspiration for this layout was the picture itself. It was taken on New Years Day and Pop wasn't feeling well. However, with a new camera in hand I was taking pictures of the family and captured a rare moment of pure joy when Pop was watching Jane. And although you may not know him I am sure you can relate in some ways. Its just a memory that will stay with you!

Materials: Bo Bunny Midnight Frost Ice paper, Bo Bonny Midnight Frost Powder paper, Authentique Genuine stickers, BG Ambrosia Alphastickers, Prima flower died with SU Night of Navy ink, SU vintage faceted buttons, Su library clips, Bo Bonny Timepiece chipboard, SU twine, Prima wood tickets

So that's it for today - I may try to get a card done tonight - we'll see! This did inspire me to want to spend more time in my scraproom.

Lily Bee August Sketch Challenge

Hi all,

Day 3 is just about over!

When Rhea Skomorowski posted the Lily Bee August Sketch Challenge, I knew I had to join in on the fun!! This type of layout is totally my style!!!  I love the symetrical layout with small details.  So I started this morning armed with my many punches and LilyBee paper. However, I was interrupted by a phoen call telling me that my grandfather was very ill.  I rushed out to see him and sure enough it seems the parkinsons is taking over his body but he was still able to show some of his character.  It was so nice to see him although sad to see him suffering - I've decided tomorrow I will sketch some recent photos of him... the only problem is I am not sure I'll find a layout perfect enough. Stay tuned!

Anyway, I did finish this off this evening despite the events of the day, the heat and pregnancy woes.  Check out the following link if you'd like to follow along! http://lilybee.typepad.com/blog/2012/08/sketch-challenge.html

Here is the sketch! Ahhh I love it!

And here is my take:
Materials: LilyBee Double Dutch paper & stickers, as well as ABC stickers, SU punches, chocolate chip bakers twine, and buttons; Sprites flower

The picture is not my greatest but I love the pictures of Jane and her Dad... Sweet.

Have a great night!

Day 2: 30 Days of Scrap

Wow!! I am sweltering here in Newfoundland!!!

I couldn't quite find that inspiration today so I started clearing up my scrapbook room... and ran across a question for the scrappers out there... how do you organize your paper? I have some lovely shelves and I have card stock in 3 or 4, along with SU textured 12x12 paper, non-SU 12x12 plan paper, a couple shelves for SU paper, a couple shelves for non-SU paper, then holidays and a shelves for some 12x12 paper packs I have.  However, I still can never find the perfect paper!!! How is that even possible?? I was thinking today I just organize by brand and collection but I am finding that difficult if all the paper remains loose... thoughts?

I moved on from there and checked out my small pile of 'to be done'. Basically I have pictures and some paper picked out for 3 to 4 layouts. I decided to start from the top... I think started looking at some of my favorite blogs and landed with the Monday Mojo at the local scrabooking store here called The Paperie.

Here's the link for the challenge of the week: http://thepaperie.wordpress.com/2012/08/06/mojo-monday-with-krista-wells/

I just put my 'S' on a slight slant but I thought it was cute:

Materials used were MME 12 days of Christmas, Whisper White SU, Chocolate Chip SU, BG Life of the Party letters, October Afternoon Holiday Style Chip n Stick, SU Bakers Twine, SU buttons, SU Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details and Studio G glitter glue (which is now thrown out because it was too watery... do not use!)

I decided I wasn't sure if I liked it, put it aside, grabbed some lunch and headed back up to my scrapbook room.  I then found the insipiration to create a card!! But this was purely a 'scraplift' from one of my favorite blogs called the 'Bean Talk' - It's awesome!! Follow along!! http://www.jillibeansoup.typepad.com/

Anyways, check it out!!!
Materials: This is a purely Stampin Up (SU) because they had the perfect matching product for it: Crumb Cake paper, Lucky Limeade, Island Indigo & Cherry Cobbler ink and bakers twine, PS. I Love you stamp set. Tiny Tags stamp set, and the Owl builder (small heart on the back) and jewellery tag punches.

I thought I would show you what I did with the back.. rather than tuck the twine away, I just hid it with a cute little element..

Time to get Jane from daycare!! I can't wait to see her!! Bt maybe we'll swing by a grocery store that's air conditioned to pick up some supper!

Cheers,
Cathy
