Follow Your Heart | #tgifc53

With our one year anniversary behind us, we continue to evolve.  At the end of each month, we will no longer have a remix challenge but instead a "Pick Your Favourite", where you can CASE or can be inspired by anything found at TGIF.

I was inspired by Jeanna's card - there's something about watercolour that is so appealing to me.

People achieve the watercolouring look in different ways, but lately I tend to use my aqua painter and my Stampin' Write markers.

Easy Peezy Lemon Squeezy.

One. Two. Three. Keeping with my style. | Fancy Friday

This month's theme is "Other than a Card."
In fact, I chose it myself.
Being a scrapbooker, I figured this was most definitely in my wheel house.

But when I went to do it, I had nothing.  Everything I did was terrible.
I created this.

And I tore it up.
Well, its in pieces.

It was too busy for me.  I hated the black.  It was missing something...

I was trying to make my Stampin' Up! supplies fit me.

And that didn't work.

I tossed it and begin to watercolour instead for my TGIF Challenge (see tomorrow's post).

But in the midst of it all, I laid out my pieces all over my desk and came back to MY STYLE.

Bottom line...
Yes. This layout is RIDICULOUSLY simple.
Yes. There's not too many supplies used.
Yes. It may not be YOUR style.

But what matters?  It tells my story.  It's focus is on the story... and let's get serious... I like to write on my scrapbook pages.  Like a little bit too much.

"She loves the water.
She spent hours jumping.
One. Two. Three.
Over the waves.
Again and Again and Again."

And that's what memory keeping is all about, isn't it?
My style may not be YOUR style.
And that's simply OK.

I can't wait to see what my fabulous friend, Cindy has in store. Check her out!

Roots Project Life | Ali Edwards Story Kits

I came back from vacation.

I haven't been able to find much time to create but I put together this layout of my grandmother's 8-th birthday.  Theses are the stories that I want to keep because i know they are going to be few and far between.  I take a lot of photos and I want to remember.

Pocket Style scrapbooking works best for me when I have a lot of photos.

This is the back side of this layout.  I separated it between the dinner and outside when the kids ran wild.

Most of the supplies comes from older Ali Edwards Story kits, including the awesome acrylic word "roots". I have had 17 kits and have been a subscriber since day one and I continue to be inspired by the class that comes with the kit as well as the product.

Continue telling your stories, my friends

Love, Cath.

A sketch turned pocket style scrapbooking | #tgifc50

Hello Vacation is right.
By now I am two weeks into a vacation and probably getting a little antsy to get home. Either that or incredibly sad that I have to leave the sun and return to the unpredictable.

This layout was actually inspired by the TGIF Challenge sketch this week:

When I looked at this, I immediately saw an amazing scrapbook page but I simply wasn't in the mood.  I realized that this would work perfectly with Project Life.

The Summer bucket list is a real life thing that I have. I have it at the end of my planner and I add to it as I feel necessary. Although I wanted to knock off all these items this past summer, I did not.

That was fun.
Now, back to my vacation... as I am currently busy creating memories.

DO | Simple Scrapper

I don't always scrapbook about people but rather things that I am doing.  Lately, I've been busy getting organized.  It's a slow process but I can see a different in productivity, which is certainly ensuring I live a happy life. The little things seem to be

For this layout, I was inspired by Jennifer Wilson's story starters, which relate to the Spring Cleaning theme.  To find out more, you must become a member at Simple Scrapper.

As with many of my layouts these days, I continue to be inspired by Ali Edwards story kits.  This layout has some of those embellishments.

Check out those large alphas, which I believe came from Studio Calico.  I adhered those to a 4x4 transparency by stapling them.  This gave them the look that they are floating.

Come back again next month so I can show you my May Simple Scrapper layouts.

Photograph at the Beach | Simple Scrapper

oh hello, my friends!

As many of you know, I live on an island on the East Coast of North America called Newfoundland. Like many, east coast areas you'd think there would be many sandy beaches; however, you are more likely to find a rocky beach here.  What's worse is that there's a small window of summer days that you would consider a good beach day. We got lucky and found ourselves in Terra Nova Park, a Canadian National Park, on a beautiful sunny day.  We headed to Sandy Pond (Newfoundland is incredibly "original" in their naming of people, places and things), a shallow water pond with a soft sandy beach.

We went to the beach with my sister and her family.  They get along amazingly and we are incredibly grateful to have children around the same age that get along. (In fact we are vacationing together in Florida right now).

Isn't it great as a child when you have cousins that are the same age? My husband wasn't as lucky and makes mention of this almost every family event.

One of my favourites memories from this trip is the fact that my son simply refused to take off his sneakers.  He also refused to get in the water.  My daughter on the other hand, wouldn't get out of the water.  However, both her in their glee - one enjoyed the sand while the other, the water.   There were also precious moments of hand holding, big smiles and buried dinkies. Those are the moments that I don't want to forget.

For this double layout, I used Stampin' Up! paper as my background paper and embellished largely with Ali Edwards Story kits chipboard words.

The layout comes from a sketch provided by Jennifer Wilson at Simple Scrapper.

Hope you are busy creating memories!
Cheers,
Cathy

An April Colour Challenge | #tgif49

We made it to April, can you believe it?  A full quarter of the year has gone by.
And I should be working on my sun tan while ignoring "Mom. Mamma. Mommy.." sounds.

This week I went back to one of my favorite stamp sets, Silhouettes & Scripts.
I adore that hat and the "happy birthday" font.

I think the stamp set is what saved me here.  This colour combo wasn't calling my name especially with wisteria wonder.  This is one of my "dislike" colours. Because I was loving the stamps, I was able to pull out a card that I enjoyed.

Hope you have a great day and make sure to play along with us every month at TGIF Challenge blog!
