Light it Up | tgifc66

Well, well, well.

This week's TGIF challenge is always a favourite of mine because part of the reason to post any crafting projects is to inspire others.  How we inspire can be different - like loving a sketch or a colour combo or in my case today, a nice reminder to use a stamp set that I had forgotten about.

This month I was inspired by challenger, Loni Spendlove - you can see her card here. Thanks for inspiring to play with this darling stamp set, Loni!

In "real life" you can see how the gold nicely brings out the yellow that I coloured on the wire inside the bulb.

Have a great Friday and please play along with us!

Weather Together | Fancy Friday

Welcome back to another Fancy Friday blog hop!

We are playing with bundles from the new Stampin' Up! catalog this month.  I decided to play with the Weather Together bundle.  It has the perfect combination of cute, playfulness and the seriousness that comes when we are "weathering the storm".

By the time I finished with this bundle, I had created five cards.  Four of them are created with watercolour paper, Stampin' Up! markers and an aqua painter while one of them is a clean and simple design that anyone can pull together quickly.

This clean and simple card is a combination of two of the umbrella stamps from the set, thus how I get the two tones.

My next idea was to pull out a piece of watercolour paper and emboss in white several images.  I then coloured those images and created several backgrounds... which is when I begin to play.

The card below is inspired by a painting where there's a couple that walks in the night down a street and all you see is her red umbrella. Its not a colour combo that I would typically use but I really liked how this one came together quickly.

You'll notice that there's a die cut handle but one tip to tell you is that the handle is almost too short in my opinion.  Cut the handle so that the top is just poking out.  Then you can adjust where you think the handle looks best.

The next card is showcasing that the umbrella doesn't always have to be sad.  Brighten up the background and the umbrella to give it a "beachy" feel.

I can't get away from those basic pearls.  This umbrella uses a stamp that gave the umbrella a polka dot design.  I enhanced it with basic pearls.

Oh, I think this is my favourite because of the fun little specks of rain, as well as the storm clouds. I coloured those with a touch of Sahara Sand to give it the "dark clouds".

Make sure to check out my quick video that showcases how I created the rain in this card.

Thanks for hanging out with me and my umbrellas!!

Next up is Jeanna, my fabulously fancy Vegas friend... whom lives incredibly far from me. Boohoo.   Make sure to send her love!!

you're always there for me | #tgifc65

ohhhh, just can't get enough of the Lots of Love stamp set from Stampin' Up!

I mean, really? How cute is that unlikely pair: an elephant & a mouse.

This week the TGIF Challenge Blog Design team is bringing you a "cut it up" challenge.  This means using die cuts or cutting out images.

Again, I watercoloured the elephant and mouse using my aqua painters and the Stampin' Write markers.  If you look closely you can see that the elephant is two toned.  I coloured the whole elephant sky blue initially then I used the heat gun to dry it.  Over top of the blue, I coloured patches of smoky sky.  This gave it a two toned look.

Give it up for the heat gun!! :)

Happy Friday!

Every Summer Has a Story | Simple Scrapper

These pictures bring back memories from a year ago.

As many of you know, I scrapbook chronologically using both pocket pages and traditional layouts.  To make it work, I pick out what I want to scrapbook traditionally. After that, any pictures that are left must go in pocket pages. Usually that means, they will be placed in a "month in review" page such as the one above.

To understand more about my process, check out this post on Simple Scrapper.

There's no theme. No rhyme or reason to any of this. I am jumping brands and supplies.  With that said, I am known to try my best to use what's on my desk rather than move to get something else.

Do you have any tricks like mine? I'd love to here your tips!

Note: In order to get access to the sketch and story starters used to create this sketch, you must be a member of the Simple Scrapper community led by Jennifer Wilson.  I can assure you its worth it. Contact me if you would like more information!

thank you, friend | #tgifc62

It's a whirlwind.

I can hardly keep up.

Life has been up and down.  I haven't had much me time to create.  But I managed to make a quick card from one of the new Hostess stamp sets by Stampin' Up! for the TGIF challenge this week.  This 3"x3" card is watercolored and simple... Just my style.

Happy Canada Day!
Happy Fourth of July... which happens to be my Jane's 6th birthday!

Enjoy the summer holidays!
